The ICC Test Rankings, also known as the ICC Test Championship which ranks the 12 Test playing nations by yielding them ratings, based on a numeric scheme system. Following the suit, points collected from each team over the last three to four years are then divided by a figure based on their total number of matches, and series played.

The ICC awards the Test Championship is given to the team holding the top position, and which is achieved by earning the highest rating. The Indian cricket team led by captain Virat Kohli currently holds the top position of ICC Men’s Test Batsmen Standing, after finishing the year as the world number one side following their win against Australia in the four-match Test series. They went on the win the series 2-1, and ensured that they stayed on top of the ICC Test Team Rankings.

The Indian Cricket Team had a phenomenal home season in 2016-17, where they defeated England, New Zealand, Bangladesh, and Australia back to back, following the suit, a major defeat to Sri Lanka 3-0. However, the team was knocking hard, but then they lost by 1-2 and 1-4 to South Africa, and England respectively. India bounced back with a historic victory on the Australian soil, roaring 2-1 Test series win in 2018/19.

New Zealand on the other hand, has been performing exceptionally well and has occupied the second spot. The England team positioned fourth, and South Africa is at fifth. Australia who has spent most of their time at the top has now found themselves at third.
