Jasprit Bumrah Biography: Hailing from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Jasprit Bumrah was born to Late Jasbir Singh and Dalbir Kaur. Coming from a state which is not known for producing fast bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah started playing domestic cricket for Gujarat. He made his first-class debut against Vidarbha in 2013, picking seven wickets in that match. He proved out to be the leading wicket-taker in that tournament.

The Indian cricketer completed his education from Nirman High School. The Indian bowler had a keen inclination towards sports since his childhood. He spent much of his time on the cricket field than on his studies.

He later joined Local Cricket Academy in Ahmadabad in a bid to take the sport professionally. Years later, he got selected for Gujarat U19 team and became a front line bowler over there.

Bumrah played his first T20 against Maharashtra in the 2012-2013 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He was also awarded man of the match performance for his stellar performance of 3/14 in that match.

His father, Jasbir Singh, was a businessman who ran a chemical factory, while his mother Daljeet worked as a school principal at Nirman high school. Bumrah lost his father when he was just seven years old as all the responsibilities fell on the shoulders of his mother to run the family.

Jasprit Bumrah made his debut in T-20 cricket against Australia on 27th January 2016. He held the record for picking the most number of wickets (28) in T20 Internationals in a calendar year.

In January 2017, in the second match of T20I series of England’s 2016-17 India tour, Bumrah played a crucial role in India’s win. He picked up two wickets and gave away 20 runs in his quota of four overs. Bowling at the death, in the final over, he took 2 wickets giving away only two runs when England needed eight to win. He was awarded Player of the Match, he produced an excellent yorker in the final ball, with 6 runs required. During the 2017 Sri Lanka Tour, Bumrah recorded the most wickets (15) taken by any fast bowler in a bilateral ODI series of five or fewer matches. He is remembered for bowling a no-ball in the final of the Champions Trophy 2017 that resulted in a wicket. The batsman, Fakhar Zaman, went on to score a match-defining century.

In November 2017, he was named in India’s Test Squad for their series against South Africa. He made his Test debut for India against South Africa at Newlands in Cape Town on 5 January 2018. Jasprit Bumrah got his maiden Test wicket as he clean bowled AB de Villiers for 65 runs. In the 3rd Test Match of India tour of South Africa 2017-18, at Johannesburg, Bumrah took his maiden five-wicket haul in Tests, with figures of 5/54 from 18.5 overs. He was named in the ODI XI of the year by Cricbuzz.

Bumrah took his 2nd five-wicket haul in Tests, with figures of 5/85 from 29 overs, in the 3rd Test Match of India tour of England 2018, at Trent Bridge, as India defeated England by 203 runs.

Bumrah displayed exceptional performances against Australia in 2018, helping India win their first ever Test series down under. Post the series, Bumrah also became the first Asian bowler to pick five wicket-haul in Australia, England, and South Africa in the same calendar year.

In 2019 he was picked in India’s squad for the World Cup. ICC named him amongst the top five exciting debutants in the perennial tournament. He completed 100 wickets in the match against Sri Lanka, becoming the second-fastest to do so after Mohammad Shami.
