Nelakurihi Sikki Reddy is an Indian Badminton player who plays in women’s doubles and mixed doubles matches. Pranav Cherry Chopra is her partner who plays with her in women’s matches. Earlier she used to partner with Ashwini Ponappa and P.C.Thulasi in the women’s doubles matches.

Nelakurihi Sikki Reddy was born on August 18, 1993. She was born in Kodad, Telangana in India. She knows Hindi, English and Telugu language. In the year 2002, her father had admitted her in the summer camp to practice Badminton sports which only saw her rise in the sport from there on.

Sikki Reddy married to B. Sumeeth Reddy this year in February 2019. Her most memorable event was when she was opposing Saina Mirza in Youth Commonwealth games. She made her debut from Sub-Junior ABC-2006 and senior in 2009. She is a member of the National Team since 2007. She is also a representative of Ahmedabad Smash Masters in Premier Badminton League and today she is considered as the best player of women’s doubles in India. She uses Yonex Nanoray 900 R.P as her equipment racket model to play in every match. She made her singles debut in Indian Grand Prix Gold in 2002 when he was only 15 years old.

However, she was eliminated in the second round only but then she had a better comeback in 2009 and made her debut bigger by performing in both the singles and doubles of Syed Modi Indian Grand Prix which was inaugurated in Lucknow, India.  In 2011, during the Quarterfinals, she was eliminated in Syed Modi Memorial Game. Her first victory came in the year 2013, parterning with Pradnya Gadre. Then, slowly and gradually year by year she kept on winning the Badminton sports medals. She has also played for Delhi Acres Company in Premier Badminton League.

Nelakurihi Sikki Reddy has been playing the sport for close to 16 years. In November 2019 she had broken her knee which saw her switching from women’s singles to women’s doubles. For the duration of 13 months, she had to be in rehabilitation and go through surgery treatments. However, she used to practice daily for the duration of 6 hours and maintained her proper diet on the advice of her coach Pullela. She had won Open Grand Prix in Russia and Brazil. With her partner Pranav she had won in the South Asian Games and obtained a gold medal. Her primary aim is to represent India in international Badminton sports.  

According to her data performance, she had played a total of 8 matches of women’s singles scoring 318 points out of which she had lost 5 matches and won 3 matches. In the women’s doubles she had played total of 218 matches and scored 26,448 points out of which she had lost 106 and won 112 matches. Lastly, in her mixed doubles, she had played a total of 198 matches scoring 36,526 points out of which she had lost 88 and won 110 matches. For the same in 2019, she had played 20 matches and scored 7,068 points out of which she had lost 12 and won 8 matches so far.

She performed in the Badminton World Federation in two levels which were firstly women’s doubles in 2017 with her partner Ashwini Ponappa in the Syed Modi International tournament resulting in 2nd runner-up. For the same, she had played four women’s mixed tournament three in the year 2017 and one in 2017 where she was thrice the 1st runner up and once and second runner-up. 

In the Badminton World Federation International series she had performed in eight matches from the year 2011-16 in which she was placed first and second runner up four times in the women’s doubles. For the mixed doubles, she had played 5 matches in 3 consecutive ye ars from 2013-15 in which she was twice the first runner-up and thrice the second runner-up. 

She has the highest ranking of 17th in women’s doubles and 13th in mixed doubles. Currently, she is ranking 17th in women’s doubles and 25th in mixed doubles as per dated on August 13, 2019. She was also given Arjuna award by the Government of India.

Nelakurihi Sikki Reddy was involved in a controversy in 2017 when the two Under-19 singles champions at a recently concluded tournament then, were awarded a Maruti Suzuki Alto car, while the doubles champions came home with a collective prize purse of Rs 52,000, or Rs 26,000 per player. This prompted the doubles player to be vocal about the discrimination.

Ashwini Ponappa too sided with her double’s partner and took to twitter to express he disappointment.
